The weekend’s annual Kearsney Tennis Festival has highlighted the high standard of competitive tennis being played at school level, which bodes well for the future of the game.

The festival ended with an epic battle between Westville Boys’ High and Paul Roos from Stellenbosch, which was eventually won by the local team 13-6.

The semi-final, between Paul Roos and Grey College Bloemfontein (14 points to 7), was equally exciting; as were the Westville – Grey College (14 points to 12) and Kearsney – Affies (12 points to 13) pool matches.

Play throughout the three days was played at a high level and in good spirit. These tennis events are crucial to the future of the game and to keeping alive interest at school level. The annual Kearsney Tennis Festival, now in its 27th year, is a highlight on the tennis calendars of the country’s top tennis-playing schools.

The organisers are enormously grateful to title sponsor Spar, as well as to Sanlam, Sportsmans Warehouse and Wilson for their continued support. Sportsmans supplied a stringer on site, making it one of the only SA school tennis events with this luxury.
