GUNN, EDWARD & HIRSCH SHIELD
The St Andrew’s College sports news of the  Gunn, Edward and Hirsch Shield teams that traveled to Queen’s College in Komani on Saturday the 14th September 2024. This year was a special occasion as it was the first time that Queen’s College would be hosting this more than 100-year event on their brand new IAAF athletics track. It was a spectacular scene with the track framed by the Hangklip mountain range and not a breath of wind to speak of.
The St Andrew’s College teams turned up as all St Andrew’s College boys do and put on a show.
Overall St Andrew’s College claimed 31 top 6 finishes, for which points are accumulated, and out of the 31, there were 17 1st to 3rd placings.
The U16s won the Breytenbach Cup for coming 2nd place overall in the SF Edwards Shield section and won the Doug Coghlan Cup for best middle-distance athlete, to which the strong performances by Zack Fletcher contributed.
The U14s also won the Leon Jacobs Cup for the best U14 middle-distance results which was a team effort by Scott Emslie and Aiden Marriott.
Final standings out of 13 teams competing:
U14 4th place overall
