St Andrew’s College vs Marlow Agricultural High School

On Saturday 22 July St Andrew’s College rugby club travelled to Cradock for their annual rugby fixture against Marlow Agricultural High School. This is always a tough challenge, but we enjoy the trip and see it as an adventure.

As always Marlow were excellent hosts. Many of our parents took advantage of this hospitality and made a weekend out of the fixture.

All the games were closely contested with Marlow taking narrow wins in most of the fixtures. St Andrew’s College put up a good fight in all the games, the 14Bs won 12 – 7, U16B drew 16 – 16, U16As won 18 -14 and the 5ths won 19 -10. This was another good win for the U16As who had a tough first half of their season.

The 1st XV started well and was the better team in the 1st half. Daniel Hickey played really well contributing all of St Andrew’s Colleges’ 10 points with a try, conversion and penalty. St Andrew’s were up 10 – 0 at halftime. Marlow came out firing in the second half and managed to get 13 points. With hardly any time left College was on the Marlow line but unfortunately couldn’t get the needed points. They had an opportunity with 3 minutes to go to get an easy 3 points, however, the boys decided to go for the win. It was a brave decision, and the boys need to be commended for giving it a go.

Thanks to all the travelling supporters, the boys appreciated the effort.

The 1st XI hockey match against Cambridge began with good attacking play, resulting in goal-scoring opportunities for both teams. St Andrew’s was able to capitalize on these opportunities and scored the opening goal in the first quarter through a fast-paced counterattack. Cambridge pressed for an equalizer, but the St Andrew’s defence was determined to keep a clean sheet.
