Kearsney 1sts beat Clifton 1sts 54-32

Kearsney travelled to St Charles to play against Clifton for the final fixture of the fourth term. The teams had met once before and there was not much between them. However, with the numerous injuries to the Kearsney team, Clifton would have fancied their chances to claim their first win against Kearsney in a number of years.

Kearsney started well and managed to secure a good 13-4 lead going into the second quarter. The wheels came off for Kearsney during the second quarter and they were only able to score two points, despite taking the correct shots. Clifton’s Al’lonzo Cassim was able to capitalise on this by scoring 10 of his team’s 11 points, to give Clifton a 1-point lead going into half time.

The teams traded baskets in the third quarter and both fouled continually, trying to break the other team’s rhythm and disrupt their offensive system. Neither team managed to pull away and were tied up at 28-each at the end of the third quarter.

This set the tone for the fourth quarter. Kearsney came out smoking and scored 18 points which blew Clifton away. They had run out of steam, and had no answer to Kearney’s offensive onslaught. Kearsney won 45-32, but the scoreline belied how hard Clifton had played.

Top Performers:

Kearsney: Oliver Brazier 12 points, Andile Nomvete 11, Luca Borrageiro 9

Clifton: Al’lonzo Cassim 16 points, Ebenerer Mangue 7
