The Soil Schools Cup, hosted by St Stithians in September 2023 gathered South Africa’s top high school soccer teams, including Clapham High School, Grey College, Pecanwood College, and an unexpected entrant, Kgokare Secondary School from the Vaal. Kgokare Secondary School emerged as the tournament’s shining stars, overpowering all opposition to claim the coveted championship.

Kgokare Secondary School’s Triumph

In the fiercely competitive u19 category, Kgokare Secondary School faced defending champions Clapham High School in a thrilling final. The match delivered a spectacle of soccer excellence, with Kgokare Secondary School prevailing 2-0. Their victory marked an impressive achievement in the world of youth soccer.

The final witnessed breathtaking goals, incredible saves, and an atmosphere filled with anticipation. Kgokare Secondary School’s win symbolized their teamwork, relentless effort, and unyielding determination.

St Stithians College Secures 3rd Place

While Kgokare Secondary School celebrated their championship, St Stithians College displayed their soccer prowess, securing the runner-up position in the u19 age group. They demonstrated their mettle in the 3rd and 4th place final by defeating Pecanwood College with a convincing score of 3-1.

Grey College Dominates u16s

Grey College showcased their soccer dominance in the u16 category, scoring an impressive 25 goals while conceding just one. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, establishing them as the team to beat.

The contest for 2nd and 3rd place in the u16 division was fiercely contested. St Stithians College ultimately claimed the 2nd spot, leaving Curro Linbro Park in 3rd place.

u15 and u14 Categories Shine

Grey College’s soccer prowess continued in the u15 age group, securing the top position. Clapham High School followed closely in 2nd place, with St Stithians College taking 3rd place.

The u14 age group delivered an underdog story to remember. In an unexpected twist, CBC Mount Edmund from Pretoria triumphed over Wits Academy with a resounding 4-0 victory in the final. This remarkable achievement crowned them as the 1st u14 Soil Schools Cup Champions. Wits Academy claimed the runner-up position, while the formidable Grey College secured 3rd place.

Individual Accolades

Karabo Mphuthi from Kgokare Secondary School earned the title of Player of the Tournament, showcasing outstanding skills and contributions to his team’s success. Masande Luthuli from St Stithians College clinched the Top Goal Scorer of the Tournament title, leaving spectators in awe with his remarkable goals. Both players received a Honor X7 mobile phone from MTN for their performances
