SA School Sports Girls’ First Team Hockey Rankings – Big Moves and Bigger Moments!
This week’s Girls’ First Team Hockey Rankings saw some important movement at the top and middle of the table, as key results continue to shake things up!
Oranje Meisies, although edging past Paarl Girls High, faced a bigger test against Paarl Gim—and it was Paarl Gim who rose to the challenge, fighting tenaciously for a thrilling 3-2 victory right in Oranje’s backyard. The win sees Paarl Gim jump back into third place, while Oranje’s neighbours Eunice benefit from the shake-up to move into second, despite suffering a narrow loss themselves against Paarl Gim. Their 14-0 dismantling of Sentraal helping to mitigate the damage.
Meanwhile in KZN, Durban Girls’ College delivered one of the most dramatic comebacks of the season! Trailing 1-0 with just five minutes left on a flooded astro, DGC stunned Our Lady of Fatima by smashing in two quick goals to snatch a crucial derby win. As a result, Our Lady of Fatima slip out of the top 10, making way for another KZN powerhouse, St Mary’s Kloof, to climb into the top 10. DGC have a long way still to go but they are inching ever closer to more familiar territory.
Witteberg can count their KZN tour a success, notching an important win over The Wykeham Collegiate and putting in gutsy performances against St Anne’s and St John’s DSG.
Remember, the Top 12 teams on the SA School Sports School Hockey Rankings will earn their place at the Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament, while positions 13-24 will be invited to compete in the exciting Rising Champions Cup hosted by La Rochelle.
