Affies refused to be intimidated by the Cape stranglehold on the top of the First XI Cricket Rankings and produced match winning cricket to march up the rankings table.
On a bowler friendly pitch Affies managed to beat Rondebosch in a low scoring affair which saw 15 wickets falling for less than 150 runs. Yet the boys from Pretoria held on for a memorable win away from home. Add to that a comfortable win over Wynberg and Paul Roos Gym and Affies are in the top 3 zone and within striking distance from the top.
SACS who have recorded only a single defeat this year, a 1 run loss to Wynberg, move into the No.1 position on this week’s First XI Cricket Rankings by the narrowest of margins.
A noticeable performance from last week came from Waterkloof’s Stefan Driemeyer who reached 121 runs in their win over Centurion. However, it was another Waterkloof player who went further when they beat Grey College. Tristan Luus scored a match winning 106 runs and then dismantled the Grey line-up with 5/24 in a dominant performance.
