Last year there was no stopping St. Stithians who raced to the top of the Belgotex First XI Rankings early and stayed there throughout the year completing a record unbeaten season.
Could the same be happening this year? After their first three matches they are on top again and still unbeaten with the likes of Matthew Erasmus, Johan Mulder and Curtis Campher all in terrific form and scoring heavily.
However this year there is guaranteed to be a strong challenge from Rondebosch who have already strung together eight wins on the trot and was once again too good for the teams they faced last week. Jordan Collier came good with the ball to end up with 5/41 in their one sided encounter against Bellville and Daniel Moriarty was in the wickets in the Brackenfell win with 3/26.
The KZN outfit Clifton are enjoying the heady heights at the top of the table so far this season and it will be very interesting to see if they can remain amongst the big names without suffering from vertigo and perhaps become one themselves. Their win against St Andrews School was emphatic thanks to a five for by Noorbhai and they certainly look like a team to watch in 2017.
