There has already been several high profile festivals to kick start the 2019 school rugby season with the promise of more to come in the approaching weeks. With the majority of the leading teams in the country full engaged in the season we are looking at familiar faces at the top of this week’s SA School Sports First XV Top 100 Rankings.
Nobody will be surprised to hear that Grey College have ended the 2019 season as the No.1 ranked team on the SA School Sports First XV Top 100 Rankings.
It was billed as the ‘season final’ as two of the country’s most successful teams in 2018 locked horns in what turned out to be a bitterly close affair.
It was an ancient story, from olden times, the story of David versus Goliath. The Story of the mighty giant against the puny underdog. The Story of the overwhelming favourite against the long shot, with absolutely no chance.
The 2018 school rugby season is still very much in its embryonic stage and the form and fortunes of many teams are bound to fluctuate during the course of a very busy season.
Grey College set about trying one last effort to reclaim the number one position on the First XV Belgotex Top 100 Rankings for 2017 with a devastating display against one of the powerhouses of KZN rugby, Glenwood.
Grey College were given a genuine test by Glenwood who travelled up to Bloemfontein to take on the leading team in the country. Although there were times when Glenwood hinted at causing a major upset, Grey managed to win well at the end and stay at the head of this week’s SA School Sports First XV Top 100 Rankings.
There was very little movement on this week’s First XV SA School Sports Rugby Top 100 Rugby Rankings with many teams winding down their season for a well deserved break.
