SA School Sports Girls First Team School Hockey Rankings – The Business End Begins!
As we shift into the business end of the season, the intensity on the turf is being matched by the ever-tightening rankings table. The margins are now razor-thin, and the top teams are digging in deep to hold their ground—or climb even higher.
Rhenish, who have led from the outset, still proudly sit as the No.1 ranked team in the country on the school hockey rankings. But hot on their heels is a determined Paarl Gim, whose recent form has made it clear they are coming for the crown. Their incredible performance at the Belgotex Sport Girls Hockey Challenge, where they clinched the title, was a major statement. Facing a rejuvenated Herschel side in the final, Paarl Gim triumphed 3-2 in a dramatic 8-second winner-takes-all shootout.
Herschel’s improvement in recent weeks has been phenomenal, bolstered by the standout efforts of goalkeeper Hailey Lewis, whose heroics kept them in the contest time and again throughout the tournament. Expect them to keep rising.
Meanwhile, Collegiate have been one of the biggest movers this week, breaking back into the top five and showing they mean business as crunch time approaches.
From positions 10 to 15, it’s become an all-out bun fight—with any of these talented teams capable of surging into tournament qualification territory.
Speaking of which—June 12 looms large on the calendar! Why is it important? It’s the final cut-off for qualification to two of the premier events in school girls’ hockey:
The Top 12 teams on the SA School Sports School Hockey Rankings will earn their place at the Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament, while positions 13-24 will be invited to compete in the exciting Rising Champions Cup hosted by La Rochelle.
So, every result matters more than ever!
