Hockey Fever Grips the Nation: School Hockey Rankings Heat Up for Tournament Glory!
The SA School Sports Girls First Team Rankings are scorching hot this week, as teams across the country grapple for glory and a coveted spot in the upcoming tournaments! With the qualification deadline looming, every match, every goal, and every save holds immense importance.
Oranje Meisies Hold Firm, But Garsfontein Make a Statement!
The battle for the number one spot continues to be a nail-biter. While Oranje Meisies retain their top position for another week, Garsfontein threw a wrench into the works with a well-fought 2-2 draw against the Bloemfontein powerhouse. They also managed to hold the 2023 No.1 team Eunice to a draw and these impressive results sees Garsfontein climb into the coveted top 10 zone just in time for the crucial qualification push. Could this be the start of a meteoric rise to the top of the school hockey rankings?
Rhenish in the Mix, Tight Race for Top 12
Rhenish remains firmly in contention for pole position after securing a hard-earned 2-0 victory over DF Malan and probably will look at that winning margin with a bit of disappointment. However, teams are separated by the slimmest of margins, and the pressure is on as other teams fight tooth and nail for a place in the top 12.
Every Match Matters – A Race for Two Tournaments!
The fight for rankings isn’t just about one tournament; it’s a two-fold battle! As happens each year positions 10-20 are a hotbed of competition as teams jostle to qualify for a coveted spot in the prestigious Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament. While some may narrowly miss out on this elite competition, all is not lost! Teams ranked 13-25 will have the chance to shine at the La Rochelle Challengers Cup Tournament.
This means every match, every goal, and every save truly matters. The dedication, passion, and skill on display are a testament to the incredible talent in girls’ school hockey across South Africa.
