The past week witnessed a flurry of activity on the school cricket fields across South Africa, despite some rain interruptions.
In a closely contested week, Affies have climbed to the summit of the SA School Sports School Cricket First XI Rankings. Their impressive victory over St. Davids over the weekend solidified their position at the top of the table.
However, several unexpected results have shaken up the rankings. Waterkloof, despite victories against Grey College, suffered a surprising defeat to St. Andrews School, despite a heroic double by Riley Miller, who claimed 5/44 and scored a magnificent 107 runs in a losing cause. Menlopark also capitalized on Waterkloof’s slip-up, securing a memorable victory over their neighbors.
Rondebosch have climbed the ladder following a convincing win over the touring Pearson outfit, who also struggled against Wynberg. Kearsney College clipped the wings of high-flying Northwood, causing a slight drop in their rankings.
Standout individual performances this week included a magnificent unbeaten 168 by L. Du Plessis from Boland Landbou against Oakdale. Eli Aufrichtig from Rondebosch scored a century against Pearson, while Wynberg’s Storme van Rooyen impressed with a 137-run innings against PRG.
