The U16 school hockey season is officially underway, and with it comes the first edition of the SA School Sports Girls’ U16 Rankings! However, it’s still very early days, with many teams yet to feature as they have not played the required three matches to qualify for this week’s rankings.
That being said, there is plenty to play for in 2025! The U16 teams have a big incentive to perform, as the top 12 teams on the rankings will receive an
invitation to the prestigious 
Paarl Gim Top Schools Tournament—a stage where the best of the best will battle it out. Meanwhile, teams ranked 13-24 will have the opportunity to compete in the DSG Makhanda Rising Champions Challengers Cup, a tournament designed to showcase the next tier of rising stars.
As more matches are played and more teams enter the rankings, expect plenty of movement on the table in the coming weeks. Every game counts, and the road to qualification is wide open!
