Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XV School Rugby Rankings – Grit, Glory, and the Unstoppable March to Greatness
Sometimes, it’s in the most atrocious conditions that true greatness reveals itself. Mud, rain, and swirling wind couldn’t dampen the fire of one of the most anticipated clashes of the school rugby season — Paarl Gim vs Paul Roos Gymnasium.
Paul Roos, hungry to reignite their climb up the rankings, knew they needed something special. But Paarl Gim, ranked No.1 by SA School Sports from almost the very start of the season, once again proved why they’re the team to beat in 2025. With grit, discipline, and an unwavering belief in their system, Gim got the job done — staying unbeaten and solidifying their place at the summit.
Now one of only two unbeaten teams in the top 10, Paarl Gim marches forward, eyes fixed on what’s shaping up to be the ultimate showdown in schoolboy rugby: their season-defining clash later this year with neighbours and fiercest rivals, Boishaai.
And speaking of Boishaai — what a statement they made. In a game for the ages, they managed to crack the code and earn a rare, memorable victory over Grey College, handing the Bloemfontein giants their second loss of the season. Under the masterful guidance of Sean Erasmus, Boishaai are building something truly special. Sitting just behind Gim in second place, they are applying the pressure and keeping the season thrillingly alive.
Meanwhile, in the shadows of the spotlight, Westville continue their quiet but impressive campaign. Travelling to KES and returning victorious, they preserved their unbeaten status. Flying under the radar, they are shaping up as KZN’s silent assassins — and a mouth-watering clash with DHS looms in the weeks ahead.
What’s clear is this: school rugby is not just about the big names and historic rivalries. It’s about resilience, unity, belief — and playing with heart no matter the weather, scoreboard, or crowd.
