SACS Prove Their Class in Top-of-the-Table Clash – Latest Boys First Team Hockey Rankings
It was the matchup the school hockey world had been waiting for — No.1 ranked SACS vs. No.2 ranked Paul Roos Gymnasium. With both teams having swept aside all challengers so far this season, the question was clear: would the SA School Sports Hockey Rankings be validated in this ultimate showdown?
The answer came in the form of a pulsating, high-octane contest filled with pace, precision, and top-tier hockey. When the dust settled, it was SACS who emerged victorious, cementing their dominance with a 3-1 win. Reece Theunis struck twice to give the Cape side the edge, and a moment of magic from Daniel Graser sealed the deal with a clinical third.
Paul Roos showed tremendous courage and flair, reminding everyone that they remain a powerhouse in the making. As their coach Michael Baker graciously admitted after the game, “That’s why SACS are still the best! We were just too young, we have as many Grade 10s as Matrics.” No doubt, PRG’s time is coming — and fast.
Elsewhere, Glenwood turned heads with a thrilling 4-3 win over Westville, showing signs of revival. Durban High School and Hilton couldn’t be separated in their encounter, playing out a competitive draw that highlighted the growing depth of quality across the rankings.
As the season edges closer to its conclusion, one thing is certain: South African school hockey continues to deliver drama, excitement, and unmatched talent. Thank you to all the players, coaches, and supporters who make the rankings possible each week — your passion keeps the game thriving!
