Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XV School Rugby Rankings – Post-Easter Weekend Update

The Easter weekend brought with it a feast of schoolboy rugby action, as festivals across the country showcased some of the finest talent in the game. With top teams going head-to-head and a few surprise results thrown into the mix, this week’s Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XV School Rugby Rankings sees a major shake-up.

One of the biggest talking points comes from the Kearsney Easter Festival, where Monument—who were looking to break into the top 10 after their commanding win over Jeppe—hit a bump in the road. Their campaign in KZN didn’t yield the results they hoped for, starting with a loss to a fired-up DHS side, followed by a tough draw against Glenwood, and a narrow escape against Milnerton. As a result, Monnas slide down the school rugby rankings this week in what will surely be a wake-up call as the season heats up.

In contrast, Glenwood—the famed ‘Green Machine’—emerged as one of the weekend’s biggest winners. They remained unbeaten over the festival with impressive victories against Queen’s College and Milnerton, and a draw with Monument that very nearly was another win. After racing to a 19-point lead in the first half, Glenwood will feel they left points on the field, but their performances overall have earned them a well-deserved climb to their highest position on the rankings in several seasons.

The Easter fixtures have once again underlined the depth and unpredictability of South African school rugby, where no result is guaranteed and every match counts.
