U15 Grey Water Polo Festival:

The U15 boys showcased their skills at the Grey Water Polo Festival this past weekend, delivering an impressive performance despite lacking official fixtures leading up to the tournament. Displaying moments of excellent water polo, the team exhibited significant growth over the course of the weekend, participating in a total of 10 fixtures, securing victories in 8 and experiencing 2 losses. Notably, they achieved a historic triumph by defeating Grey and Paarl Boys for the first time in an official fixture.

Beyond their success in the pool, the team’s commendable sportsmanship and manners throughout the weekend deserve special recognition. This positive start to the season bodes well for the team’s future prospects.

A heartfelt appreciation extends to Mr. Laurence Christie, whose dedication was instrumental in the team’s success. His sacrifice of personal time and family commitments to manage and warm up the team did not go unnoticed. Special thanks are due to him for his invaluable contribution to the U15 boys’ achievements at the Grey Water Polo Festival.

The 2nd and 3rd teams participated in the Pearson National 2nd Team tournament this past weekend. The 2nd team showcased a solid set of performance, playing 6 matches, winning 4, and securing a commendable 9th position. The competition, featuring top polo sides from Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Western Cape, and the Eastern Cape, served as a valuable platform for both College teams to assess their skills. It was an opportunity for the younger players to gain significant experience, while senior boys not only led by example, but also exhibited commendable sportsmanship. Notably, some 3rd team players stood out at against a few of the first and second teams they competed against, raising their prospects for selection for the upcoming Chukka Fest at Knysna.

Jacques du Toit emerged as the standout player for St Andrew’s College, delivering consistent performances throughout the weekend. His exceptional contributions earned him the prestigious title of the man of the match in the 2nd team’s final game. This annual event not only showcased the talent within the teams but also provided a memorable opportunity for growth and development in the competitive water polo circuit.
