As the sun sets on another thrilling season of school cricket, we unveil the final First XI School Cricket Rankings for 2023. It’s been an exciting journey, filled with incredible matches, outstanding talent, and fierce competition.
Rondebosch Reigns Supreme
Once again, Rondebosch has proven its mettle by finishing the year as the undisputed No.1 ranked school cricket team in the country. Their consistent performances and unwavering determination have cemented their place at the top. Congratulations to the champions of 2023!
St.Stithians, who had challenged gallantly for most of the season, found themselves in the runner-up position. Despite their valiant efforts, a surprising loss to Noordheuwel near the end of the season saw them fall just short of the top spot.
Standout Performances
The final week of matches treated us to a display of exceptional cricketing talent. Corne Botha from Noordheuwel had a match for the ages, smashing an impressive 136 runs and taking five wickets for 33 runs against St.Stithians. Grey High School’s Xander Elkington (108*) and Dylan Garrod (123) both notched centuries against Woodridge. Meanwhile, Callum Appolis made his mark with an outstanding bowling performance, claiming 5/22 for Paul Roos Gym against Paarl Gim.
In the 17 years of generating these rankings, 2023 has stood out as the year with the highest level of interest and support. The cricketing community’s passion for these rankings continues to grow, reflecting the dedication and commitment of all involved.
