SA School Sports Girls First Team Hockey Rankings – The Final Push Is On
Another week ticks by in the school hockey season, and the toll of a long and intense campaign is evident on tired legs, bruised bodies, and weary coaches. Injuries and fatigue have become the legacy of what has been one of the most fiercely contested seasons in recent memory.
St Mary’s Kloof, seemingly running on fumes, dug deep to manufacture a narrow win over the fast-rising Ashton side. It was a match that tested every ounce of resilience and served as a reminder that the qualification cut-off can’t come soon enough for some teams.
One side that seemed anything but exhausted was DSG. Having missed out on competing in the recent St. Anne’s Cup, they had a point to prove—and they certainly did. A dominant 4-1 victory over a strong Collegiate outfit was a bold statement of intent. The result sees Collegiate drop out of the top five, while DSG’s stock rises at the perfect time.
Pearson continue to fire away in pursuit of a coveted Top 12 finish. Their latest masterclass came in the form of a 5-0 victory over Woodridge, a performance full of attacking flair and ruthless efficiency. But with time ticking away, one wonders if their late charge will be enough.
As the rankings table tightens and the final weeks draw near, every goal and every result matters more than ever. The excitement, passion, and unpredictability of girls’ school hockey continue to shine. A massive thank you to all players, coaches, schools, and supporters for the incredible energy, commitment, and belief in this rankings journey. Let’s finish strong!
The Top 12 teams on the SA School Sports School Hockey Rankings will earn their place at the Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament, while positions 13-24 will be invited to compete in the exciting Rising Champions Cup hosted by La Rochelle.
