Gill College was founded in 1869 as a university and the beautiful architecture was based on that of the University of Glasgow. The school’s namesake, Dr William Gill who was District Surgeon of Somerset East, passed away in 1863 and left the value of his estate for the establishment of a college of higher education. In 1903, a change in educational regulation caused Gill College to become a high school. Between 1928 and 1965 Gill College was a school just for boys.
Today, Gill College is a proudly South African dual medium high school with boys and girls from all cultures and backgrounds. This unique trademark, together with our hostel facility, quality education, rich traditions and variety of activities, makes us the perfect school to produce balanced, positive and productive young South Africans for the future. Our 100% matric pass rate is just one example of our dedication and perseverance towards excellence.
