SAFA Unveils U15 National Squads for CAF African Schools Champs in Namibia

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has proudly announced the boys’ and girls’ squads that will represent South Africa at the highly anticipated 4th edition of the CAF African Schools Champs, set to take place in Namibia from 9-12 September 2024.

This exciting announcement follows the thrilling conclusion of the U15 National Championships, held this past weekend (9-10 August 2024) at Sturrock Park in Johannesburg. The event was a spectacular success, with the Gauteng Boys and Girls teams emerging victorious in both finals, each clinching their titles with hard-fought 1-0 wins. KwaZulu-Natal teams, despite dominating much of the tournament, were narrowly edged out in the decisive moments.

SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan expressed his delight at the wealth of talent showcased during the championships, emphasizing SAFA’s ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of football stars.

“Congratulations to all the players who have earned their place in the national squads. This is a proud moment for our association as we continue to build a stronger foundation for the future. Development is at the heart of SAFA’s Vision 2030, and the success of our U15 girls’ team, who brought home continental silverware from Zanzibar in May, is a testament to our progress. This new chapter is another step in that journey. Well done to everyone involved,” said Dr. Jordaan.

SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting the incredible potential displayed by the young athletes.

“We’ve assembled a group of players born in 2010, many of whom possess exceptional natural talent. They represent the future of South African football and have the ability to lead our country to dominance at the youth level in the coming years. We’re eagerly anticipating an exciting tournament in Namibia, where we hope to not only defend the girls’ title for the fourth consecutive year but also reclaim the boys’ championship for South Africa,” said Steenbok.
