Beaumont Primary’s Golden Season

Beaumont primary hockey team

In a year filled with thrilling school sports stories, few shine as brightly as Beaumont Primary’s U13A boys’ hockey team. Under the guidance of coach Onge Gwazilitye, this remarkable team has delivered a season that will be remembered for decades—not just for the trophies they lifted, but for the way they played the game.

The numbers alone tell an extraordinary tale. Across roughly 30 matches, Beaumont marched forward unbeaten, recording 29 victories and just a single draw. Along the way, they netted an astonishing 140 goals while conceding a mere handful—around six goals all season. In school sport, where balance and unpredictability often reign, that level of dominance is almost unheard of.

Their reward? Beaumont claimed both the Co-Ed league competition and the prestigious WP Top Schools title, capping it all with a double victory over Bishops in the finals. At the Top Schools tournament, where the top 10 hockey schools in Western Province (out of 120) gather to determine the best of the best, Beaumont showed they belonged at the very summit.

But perhaps what makes this story truly inspiring goes beyond the stats and silverware. Partway through the season, the team faced what could have been a crushing setback—the loss of their captain, a Western Province A player, to a serious ankle injury. Many top teams might have faltered without their leader on the turf. Beaumont didn’t. They dug deep, leaned on each other, and found a way to keep winning. That resilience speaks volumes about the character of the players and the culture fostered at the school.

And all of this happened in a milestone year—Beaumont Primary’s 50th anniversary. What better way to celebrate half a century of education and sport than with a hockey team that embodies teamwork, determination, and joy in the game?

School sport is not just about results—it’s about memories, friendships, and those magical seasons that bind players, parents, coaches, and schools together. For Beaumont’s U13A boys, 2025 will forever be remembered as their golden year.

Congratulations to the boys, coach Gwazilitye, and the entire Beaumont Primary community. Here’s to many more seasons of passion, teamwork, and sporting excellence!
