Soccer:
Saints and Michaelhouse kicked off the third quarter with the first of a home-and-away match up on Saturday with House cashing in on home ground advantage, winning thirteen, drawing two and losing two games.
The younger lads braved the early morning chill, making a clean sweep of the U14 age group, including a 2-0 win for the A side and an emphatic 7-0 win for the D XI. Things were more evenly contested in the age group up, with the hosts winning three and drawing the C (1-1) and A team (0-0) clashes. House were again dominant in the U16 category, taking all four results: the 4-0 win in the A team clash, and a resounding 8-3 win for the D side being the pick of the bunch.
Good wins for the home side fourth and second XIs, and a narrow 2-3 loss for the second team set the scene for the first XI showdown. Michaelhouse came out guns blazing, streaking into an early 1-0 lead; but despite a significant advantage in the real estate stakes for House, Saints were obstinate in defense, flooding the box with numbers, and absolutely ruthless on attack. An eventual 4-1 win for the visitors, left the Boys from Balgowan licking their wounds and poring over the drawing board ahead of their opportunity to exact revenge on St Charles in Scottsville in three weeks’ time.
