“Growing Tall Trees to Greatness”
Nestled on a vast farm in the scenic town of Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, Vryheid Hoër Landbouskool – proudly known as “the school by the mountain” – is a unique agricultural school that combines tradition, excellence, and a deep commitment to nurturing future leaders. Though small in size, our school has consistently proven that determination and dedication are greater than numbers. We stand tall in academics, culture, and sport, competing successfully against much larger schools and producing learners who make a lasting impact wherever they go.
Our motto, “growing tall trees to greatness,” captures the spirit of our vision: to cultivate strong roots in knowledge, discipline, and character, while empowering learners to reach new heights of achievement. Over the years, we have proudly seen many of our learners excel both in the classroom and beyond, shaping remarkable careers and contributing positively to their communities. Sport is at the heart of our school identity. We are home to brilliant rugby, netball, hockey, juskei, chess and soccer teams, who carry our name with pride and passion.
Whether on the field or court, our learners embody teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, consistently earning respect and recognition in interschool competitions. Despite being a small school, our determination ensures that we play with heart, courage, and a winning spirit. At Hoër Vryheid Landbouskool, education extends far beyond textbooks.
We believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who can thrive academically, socially, and athletically. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and guided by our values, we continue to inspire learners to embrace challenges, celebrate achievements, and grow into “tall trees of greatness.”
