Hoërskool Stellenbosch Cricket Report
The recent cricket matches were filled with excitement and excellent performances from all Hoërskool Stellenbosch (HSS) teams. The players showed determination and resilience against strong opponents, delivering outstanding results in several matches.
Match Highlights:
Girls Cricket
- Girls U/19 A vs Kylemore: Kylemore set a target of 102 runs. HSS fought hard and scored 73 runs, showcasing their determination and promising potential.
- Girls U/19 A vs Paulus Joubert: HSS scored 40 runs but could not defend the total. Despite the loss, the team displayed perseverance and gained valuable experience.
Boys Cricket
- U/19 A vs Westerford: HSS won the toss and bowled first, restricting Westerford to just 61 runs. They comfortably chased the target with the loss of only three wickets, securing a 7-wicket victory.
- U/19 A vs Bridgehouse: Bridgehouse batted first and scored 88 runs. Despite a strong effort from HSS, they were unable to reach the target, but the team displayed great spirit and teamwork.
- U/17 A vs Laborie: HSS put on an impressive performance, scoring 152 runs and restricting Laborie to only 41. A dominant 111-run victory highlighted their strength and perseverance.
- U/15 A vs Bridgehouse (U/16): HSS batted first and made 68 runs. Although Bridgehouse chased the target, HSS bowlers put up a fight, taking seven wickets. Their determination and energy were commendable.
- U/15 A vs Laborie: HSS posted a strong total of 153 runs and bowled out Laborie for 100, winning by 53 runs. The team’s talent and commitment were evident.
- U/14 A vs Laborie: HSS scored 69 runs and delivered an excellent bowling performance, limiting Laborie to just 33 runs, winning by 36 runs.
Outstanding Individual Performances from Stellenbosch HS:
- Rhys Smit (U/19): 7 wickets for 21 runs in 7 overs vs Westerford.
- JW Steyn (U/14): 7 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs vs Laborie.
- JW Steyn & Gunter Swart (U/15): Both scored half-centuries vs Laborie.
- Clement Swartz (U/17): Took 3 key wickets vs Laborie.
