Hockey – St Andrew’s College vs Woodridge College sports report
The St Andrew’s College Hockey Club played several outstanding matches against Woodridge last Friday. The fixture was characterized by exceptional teamwork and skillful performances across the age groups. The St Andrew’s boys can be proud of their efforts as well as the exemplary sportsmanship displayed on the day.
The St Andrew’s College 1st XI hockey side found themselves a goal down early in the game due to a lackluster start to the match against Woodridge. However, St Andrew’s played their way back into the game and improved with each quarter. Their resilience and determination was eventually rewarded with an excellent team goal finished by Mark Ter Morshuizen. Early in the final quarter, Woodridge hit back with another goal, taking the lead once more. The St Andrew’s players dominated play and continually pushed forward, equalizing with just a few minutes to play. Neither team could find the winning goal and the breathtaking match concluded 2-2.

Rugby – St Andrew’s College vs Oakham School ( UK Team)
On Saturday 15 July St Andrew’s College rugby hosted Oakham School from England. Oakham are here in South Africa on a school tour with their U15s and two senior teams. It was a great day of rugby and it is always enjoyable hosting international teams.
The St Andrew’s U15As started the fixture with a hard 38 -36 win. The Oakham U15s had the physical edge and at one stage it looked like they were going to get a famous away victory. The St Andrew’s boys fought well and used their lineout as a weapon. The game went down to the very end and both teams pushed all the way.
St Andrew’s 4ths took on Oakham 2nd XV. This game was also a tight affair with College coming away with a close 19 -12 win. The Thistles (Stayers) played against Oakham 1st XV. The concept of playing a combination team against touring teams always works well and gives opportunities for younger players to show what they can do, this game didn’t disappoint. Oakham came out strong and were up 15 – 14 at halftime. The St Andrew’s boys rallied together and played a faster game in the 2nd half. The introduction of a couple of U16 boys also helped the energy levels, with College pulling away towards the end. The final score was 55 – 22 for St Andrew’s College.
St Andrew’s College Football vs Sophia Young Stars and Makana Youth Football Academy
St Andrew’s College hosted Sophia Young Stars and Makana Youth Football Academy in some local football fixtures this weekend. All the teams played exceptionally well, and the matches were intensely contested. The Sophia and Makana teams played with a great amount of flair and creativity while the College boys remained disciplined and committed to their structures.
It was especially heart-warming to see the U14 teams play their first football matches for College. The boys played with skill, passion, and accuracy. The future of College football looks bright indeed.
