Hilton College drew with Kearsney College 4-4

Hilton hosted Kearsney College on Saturday in a thrilling match that saw eight goals scored. The visitors found themselves under pressure in the opening 15 minutes, suggesting a challenging day ahead for them.

However, the second quarter saw a renewed Kearsney outfit step onto the pitch, having scored two well-worked penalty corners, one of which was disallowed, following a rebound off the keeper.

In the third quarter, Hilton equalised, to take the lead from two penalty corner goals. The boys in maroon were not done, with Liam Johnson finishing off a well-worked team goal from build-up play.

James Pierson gave Kearsney the lead with a strike from the top of the scoring area. The tides of momentum had changed hands, with Hilton now struggling to get out of their half and through the Kearsney defence.

Hilton showed their resolve by coming from behind and taking the lead with four minutes left on the clock. With two minutes to go, Kearsney captain Matthew Mendes de Oliveira had the final say, scoring the eighth  goal of the game through in a well-executed drag flick from a penalty corner.

In the end, both teams had to share the spoils in what was a back-and-forth fixture which marked the return to winter sport in term two.
