HOCKEY

Sports news for Our Lady of Fatima’s  U14A and U16A hockey teams who participated in the Top 12 Schools Hockey Tournaments over the long weekend. This is the first Fatima teams to ever participate in this prestigious tournament. Just participating in such an event is an achievement in itself, yet both our teams played exceptional hockey and were fiercely competitive, with the games being extremely close, and often going down to the last minute.

A few special mentions:

  • Charly-Rose Boyall (U14) received Man of the Match (between both teams) in 5 of the 7 games played. This nomination was from the officials and tech table.
  • The U16A team received the Team Spirit Award which is nominated by the host school officials.
  • Mr Smith received the Most Positive Coach award 😊

U13A Nika Coertzen Hockey Festival

Over the weekend of the 2-4 August Our Lady of Fatima  U13A hockey team travelled to Bloemfontein to take part in the Nika Coertzen hockey festival. This year was the first time this festival took place, so the girls were very excited to take part in it.

Over the weekend the team played 7 full games and the results are as follows:

Vs Roedean U12A Won 8-0

Vs Truida Kestell U13A Won 2-0

Vs St Andrews U13A Won 3-0

We then formed new pools for the playoffs. We played against Eunice U12A and won 1-0 and played against a strong Jordania and drew 0-0. These results placed us top of our pool, we then went on to play in the semi-finals vs Garsfontein U13A and we won 3-0.

This took us into the finals where we faced Jordania again. After 24 minutes neither team had scored which then took us to 1 v1s.

Our girls gave it their best but we unfortunately narrowly lost the shoot outs, which placed us 2nd overall. Well done to Isabella Kitching; Shriya Nadrajah and Layla-Grace Hibbert who stepped forwarded to take the 1 v 1s. And a big congratulations to Alexa Engelbrecht for her amazing saves in the goals.
Well done to Layla-Grace Hibbert who was awarded player of the Tournament.
