Maritzburg College took part in the KZN leg of the National SuperSport Track and Field series, winning the event convincingly with seven 1st places, five 2nd places and eight 3rd places.

With winter trials taking place across the campus over the weekend, the excitement is building ahead of what promises to be a great season. Meanwhile, a special congratulations goes to College’s canoeing captain, Jack Odell, who took on the exceptionally tough non-stop Dusi race. Impressively, he completed it in just under 12 hours!

Maritzburg College’s athletes continue to excel winning the KZN leg of the National SuperSport Track and Field series as well producing excellent results at the KZN Athletic Championship.

Well done to all the College boys selected for the uMgungundlovu district tennis teams, with special mention of Adam Tilbury who captained the winning U19 team!

Athletics

Maritzburg College took part in the KZN leg of the National SuperSport Track and Field series, winning the event convincingly with seven 1st places, five 2nd places and eight 3rd places. Special mention must be made of Theo Boshoff who was the best men’s athlete with his throw of 15.10m in the Shotput.

Single events will be held in all nine provinces with the winning school from each province competing for the national title in April. College will now travel to Johannesburg to compete against the best athletic schools in South Africa

This weekend, eight Maritzburg College athletes were selected to take part in the KZN Athletics Championship, winning four gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Tennis

Seven college boys represented the uMgungundlovu district over the weekend and performed exceptionally well. Special congratulations to the U19A team, captained by Adam Tilbury, who secured first place, with Samuel Deane remaining undefeated throughout the tournament.

Cricket

Two of our current 1st XI stars, Captain Daniel Nadasan and Sphamandla Dzanibe, teamed up with three Old Collegians in the Tuskers Colts squad to take on the Northern Cape Colts. Alongside OCs Asanda Khumalo, Bryn Brokensha, and Chad Mason, the two boys played a crucial role in securing an impressive victory. As a result of their combined efforts, the Tuskers dominated the match, winning by a convincing 149 runs!

Special shoutout to Bryn Brokensha for his stellar 62 runs and Daniel Nadasan for his solid 35 runs. All five players contributed to reducing the NC Colts to just 107 all out. Well done, boys!

Canoeing

Well done to College’s canoeing captain, Jack Odell, who took part in the non-stop Dusi – an exceptionally tough race which he completed it in just less than 12 hrs!

In the Kayak cross, at the SA Championships held at Underberg, College boys placed in all categories, with Scott Venniker taking gold in the U18, James Gott silver and Joshua Craig bronze.

Scott Venniker was also 2nd in the Senior category.

In the school race river section, the boys also did very well.
