Westville 1st XV beat Kearsney 1st XV 33-15
The One-Stripe travelled down the hill on Saturday to play against the only unbeaten team in KZN, Westville Boys’ High, on their Old Boys’ Day.
In front of massive Westville home support, Kearsney really put their bodies on the line in the first half. Westville scored three tries to one, to be leading 19-10 at the break in really hot conditions. Kearsney’s try came from the in-form number 12, Keanu Williamson, who picked up the ball from the base of a ruck and cantered over to score under the poles.
In a physical and high intensity second half, Westville were first to score. Kearsney produced some enterprising play, but were unable to cross the line, despite building good pressure with ball in hand.
Westville struck again in the corner in the 54th minute, with a long pass to their winger which was well converted by their flyhalf.
Kearsney were last to score with a well-executed change of direction play. This saw replacement Ndabenhle Mkhize diving over in the corner for a well-deserved try.
Supporters were entertained to an enjoyable game which ended at 33-15 on the scoreboard, to see Westville maintain their unbeaten record this season.

1st X1 drew with Kearsney 1st X1 1-1
In a tightly contested fixture between two long-standing rivals, Kearsney College’s 1st XI faced off against Westville Boys’ High in a match that showcased skill, determination and excellent sportsmanship.
The first half saw both teams creating opportunities, but it was Westville who struck first, converting a well-placed short corner to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Kearsney responded superbly in the second half, taking control of possession and dictating the pace of the game. The relentless pressure paid off with a well-worked equaliser which resulted in a goal from a stroke.
A short corner in the final 15 seconds of the match presented Kearsney with an opportunity to take the win, but they narrowly missed out on a dramatic late winner, thanks to a great save from Westville’s keeper.
With countless opportunities created and strong composure shown under pressure; the game was held in the balance for most of the game. The match was played in excellent spirit, testament to the enduring respect between the two schools.
