Kearsney 1st X1 drew 1-1 with Hilton College

Hilton College made the trip down to Kearsney College on Saturday for a tightly fought football encounter.

Hilton was able to claim the lead from a penalty late in the first half, but Kearsney enjoyed a run of momentum and asked the right questions of the visitors’ defensive line. The tense atmosphere on Stott was intensified when Haydon Dunsdon drew the hosts level, with a good header at the back post.

Kwezi Hlela, a grade 9 player who has held his place in Kearsney 1st XI’s midfield, put the ball in the back of the net late in the second half, but was denied by the offside flag.

The game ended level 1-1 after another closely contested match.

INDOOR HOCKEY

Kearsney Indoor 1st team drew 5-5 with Northwood Indoor 1st team

Kearsney’s 1st indoor hockey team faced off against Northwood in a fixture that promised intensity and delivered a match of exceptional calibre. Northwood, known for their competitive edge, posed a significant challenge from the outset.

Kearsney conceded two early goals but responded with admirable composure and tactical precision. The team steadily closed the gap, and the match evolved into a tightly-contested affair, with both sides exchanging goals in a fast-paced and dynamic rhythm. At several points the score was level, reflecting the evenly matched nature of the encounter.

Despite facing periods of numerical disadvantage due to disciplinary cards, the Kearsney side remained resolute. Their ability to adapt under pressure and maintain focus was testament to their preparation and character.

In the final moments, the team’s perseverance paid off, securing a well-deserved 5–5 draw. Kearsney captain Joel Steyn guided his team with calm authority, inspiring a collective effort that exemplified the spirit of Kearsney sport.

The high-scoring match ended 5-5 at the final whistle.

GOLF

Kearsney golfer Asher Hollister (Gr 9) placed second in the individual competition at the KZN Schools Golf Championships held at Kloof Country Club last week. Asher was leading after round 1, with a score of 1 under par, and maintained his cool to shoot another 1 under in the second round. In the end, he lost out on first place by one shot.

The Kearsney team came third out of nine participating schools.

CANOEING

Kearsney’s canoeing team took part in the KZN Schools River Championships on the Tugela River over the weekend.

After two days of racing, Raine Scoular placed 8th in the u18 category, with Jack Sternberg 5th and Thomas Bishop 6th in the u16s.
