RUGBY: Michaelhouse 1st XV beat Kearnsey 1st XV 50-17
Friday saw the One-Stripe travel to Balgowan to take on Michaelhouse 1st XV.
The hosts started like a house on fire by scoring three quick tries to be leading 17-0 after 15 minutes of play. The first time that Kearsney were able to get the ball and maintain possession for any length of time saw Nhlanhla Ndlovo score after a seven-phase spell of attack from a lineout.
Michaelhouse scored a further try, before Kearsney had the last say of the half, when Doan Nel crossed the line, following a well-executed kick by Jadyn Johnson from a middle scrum. The teams went into the break with Michaelhouse 24-12 ahead.
Kearsney were first to score in the second half through replacement Bukho Hlwatica, and there was a sudden feeling of a possible comeback in the air, with the score now at 24-17.
This was not to be, as Michaelhouse fed off Kearsney’s errors and played some really good rugby, to score a further four tries in the final 20 minutes of the game; and take the final score to 50-17 to the hosts.
