Westville 1st X1 beat Kearsney 1st X1 3-1

Kearsney faced a tough challenge in Westville this past weekend which saw the Westville boys come out victorious.

A tentative first quarter saw both teams playing risk-free hockey in order to get a feel for each other. Kearsney drew first blood early in the second period of play, with a well-worked penalty corner deflection. The lead did not last long, however, with Westville scoring a field goal in the very next passage of play to level the scores at 1-1.

A determined Westville outfit put the foot on the gas, continuing with pressure high up the field and being justly rewarded with their second score in a well-worked field goal.

Discipline issues rattled both sides in the third period with a flurry of yellow cards being handed out. No team could take advantage of the numerical advantage at the time.

In the fourth and final quarter, Kearsney threw the kitchen sink at Westville, but the boys in navy withstood the onslaught of attack after attack. Kearsney left themselves vulnerable in defence with their attacking mindset. With a minute to go, Westville put the game to rest in the second phase of a penalty corner, seeing out the game with a 3-1 win as the ball rose high into the net.
