Rondebosch have claimed the top spot in this week’s SA School Sports First XI School Cricket Rankings, solidifying their dominance in the 2025 season.
Despite being held to a frustrating draw by Wynberg in a day of declaration cricket, they remain unbeaten in 2025—a testament to their remarkable consistency. Their total of 265/9 set the challenge, but Wynberg battled stubbornly to 138/6, denying Bosch a well-earned victory. Nevertheless, few would argue that Rondebosch deserve their No. 1 status, having taken on some of the best schools and remained undefeated.
The week also saw some outstanding individual performances. Eldoraigne’s Matthew Simpson put on a bowling masterclass, taking 6/32 to lead his team to victory over Rustenburg. Meanwhile, Tristan Helmand of Noordheuwel delivered a match-winning spell of 5/30 to help secure a crucial win over St John’s College.
There was no shortage of batting brilliance either. The clash between St Stithians and St Davids saw two centurions rise to the occasion—Thomas Collins (St Stithians) finished unbeaten on 101*, while Kamogelo Phiri (St Davids) matched the feat with an unbeaten 100. In the Cape, Paarl Gim’s T. Husmen showcased his class with a fine unbeaten ton, while Bishops’ Daniel Perold ripped through Paul Roos Gym’s lineup with a stunning 5/10.
