Affies Climb as Rondebosch Hold Firm in This Week’s Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XI Cricket Rankings
The Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XI Cricket Rankings for this week see Affies making steady progress up the table following an impressive tour of the Western Cape. Their tour included notable victories over Paul Roos Gym (PRG) and Wynberg, although they narrowly fell short against the formidable Rondebosch, who continue to reign at the top of the rankings. The unfortunate ending to their encounter against Garsfontein last week could well have seen them climbing higher up the table.
Affies’ clash with PRG was marked by a standout performance from Vihan Pretorius, whose exceptional bowling figures of 7/40 proved decisive. His disciplined spell kept PRG’s total within reach and paved the way for Affies’ batsmen to seal the win.
Thrilling Encounter as Paarl Gim Edge Past Paul Roos Gym
One of the most exhilarating matches of the week saw Paarl Gim clinch a narrow victory over Paul Roos Gym by just 3 runs. Paarl Gim set an imposing target of 305, but PRG staged a dramatic middle-order fightback, courtesy of a stunning 150-run partnership between Liam Basson and Matthew Seymore. Both players reached magnificent centuries, but their efforts ultimately fell agonizingly short of the win, underlining the unpredictable nature of school cricket.
Bishops Impress at the Independent Schools Festival
Despite rain disrupting the first day of the Independent Schools Festival, there was still plenty of action on display. Bishops showcased excellent form with commanding victories over Clifton, St. Andrew’s College, and the Titans Invitational team. Their consistency keeps the pressure on Rondebosch who can’t afford to slip at the top of the table.
Notable Performances of the Week
Several players delivered standout performances, capturing the attention of fans and selectors alike:
- Hlumelo Mgweba (Rondebosch) dismantled SACS with a devastating spell of 5/18, contributing to one of three wins for Bosch during the week.
- Daniel Cooke (Rondebosch) was in scintillating form, recording figures of 6/14 in their victory over Affies.
- Eli Aufrichtig (Rondebosch) made his mark with an unbeaten 115 against the touring Shrewsbury side.
- Luca Plekker (Paul Roos Gym) showcased his batting prowess with an undefeated 112 in their triumph over Grey College.
A Season Full of Promise
As the cricket season unfolds, the competition for rankings supremacy remains intense, with each week delivering thrilling matches and remarkable individual performances. The talent on display is a testament to the high standard of school cricket in South Africa.
Thank you for your ongoing support and passion for the Sportsmans Warehouse SA School Sports First XI Cricket Rankings. Your enthusiasm keeps the spirit of school cricket alive and thriving!
