Kearsney 1st XV beat Glenwood 1st XV 18-10
Glenwood travelled to Kearsney on Saturday for the hosts’ first home game of the season, which was played in horrid weather conditions, with mist and rain rolling in, making play extremely tough.
Kearsney were first on the board through a pick and go close to the line by Olly Ludwig. Minute 19 saw Glenwood kick a penalty goal from a high ball infringement, which gave Kearsney a 5-3 at that point.
A clever chip kick from Daniel Miskey, from a scrum launch deep in the Kearsney half, saw Lwazi Mbebe grubber through and link with Thomas Aylward and Ludwig, before James Whatmore crashed over, to take Kearsney to a 12-3 lead at the break.
Glenwood were first to score in the second half, with a try from a pick and go which was converted. This took the scoreline to 12-10 in the hosts’ favour, before the game headed into the last quarter.
Minute 51 saw Kearsney’s young flyhalf Miskey drop into the pocket and slot an important drop goal after some good close quarter play by Kearsney’s forwards.
The last points of the game, in the 65th minute, came through a Miskey penalty, which gave the 1-Stripe a good win in their first home outing of the season.
It was a physical onslaught, and both teams need to be commended for their commitment and effort in exceptionally trying conditions.

Kearsney 1st X1 beat Glenwood 1st X1 7-2
Kearsney took on Glenwood High School during the hosts’ Open Weekend, and came away with an impressive 7–2 victory in what was a much tighter contest than the final scoreline suggests.
The game began at a high intensity, with both teams creating early opportunities. At the end of the first chukka, the scores were level at 1–1. Glenwood applied strong pressure, doing well to disrupt Kearsney structures by preventing them from clearing their lines effectively and limiting their ability to play through the midfield.
By half-time, Kearsney had managed to edge ahead to a 3–1 lead, but the match remained closely contested. Glenwood continued to challenge, showing good 1-on-1 skill and intent, which kept Kearsney under pressure for long periods.
As the game progressed, Kearsney began to find their rhythm, their ball movement improved, and they were able to play with greater fluency and control. This allowed them to create more consistent attacking opportunities, both in open play and from short corners.
In the second half, Kearsney pulled away, adding further goals, to finish with a 7–2 win; displaying a variety of goals, with both well-worked field goals and effective short corner conversions.
Overall, it was a strong attacking performance by the hosts, but also a valuable reminder of the importance of handling pressure and executing the basics well. Credit to Glenwood for a competitive and spirited contest.
