Glenwood: 96/5 (Jugoo 21, Bryan 28; Browning 2/14, Yeni 1/21)
Kearsney: 102/3 (Coetzee 32*, Veenstra 29)
Kearsney won by 7 wickets
Kearsney won the toss and had no hesitation in putting in Glenwood on their home track which was destined to be difficult to play as a result of the recent rains. Glenwood amassed 96/5 with only K Jugoo (21) and K Bryan (28) offering resistance on a track which certainly assisted the bowlers.
R Browning (2/14) and S Yeni bowled (1/21) with fire and intent up front. It was spinners, A Khambula and M Lamplough, and seamer J O’Donovan, who played excellent roles, restricting the opposition to a small total.
However, 96 was never going to be enough, and even Glenwood’s SA Schools opener N Soni failed to stem the tide.
Kearsney cruised to 102/3 to win by seven wickets. R Coetzee 32* and C Veenstra 29 were the main contributors.
Special mention must be made of Glenwood’s excellent fielding, which resulted in two runouts.
In other cricketing news, Hayden Bishop (Kearsney 1st XI captain in 2023) had an exceptionally successful Khaya Majola National Week, scoring the most runs at the week. He was selected to SA Schools for his efforts.
He and Ross Coetzee were then both selected to go to the National Cubs Week, where Hayden was again the top run scorer at the week. He has enjoyed an exceptional season.
