Kearsney faced a formidable challenge on Saturday as they hosted DHS. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat.
DHS struck early, removing Kearsney captain Jason de Gryse through the impressive Taine Havermann who picked up four wickets. Rivan Moodley steadied the ship with 34, and Aaron Blackburn contributed an important 29, but the best batter of the day was the youngster Asher Hollister who made an impressive 54 runs.
The batsmen were certainly tested through DHS’ outstanding paceman Bayanda Majola, who represented the SA U19 Emerging Team in 2024. Majola finished with 5/25 in his 10 overs.
The hosts were bowled out for 166 in 45 overs.
This young Kearsney team were outstanding with the ball. Litha Gonya removed the key wicket of Ismaeel Omar in the first over, to give the hosts some hope that an upset could be on the cards. Taine Havemann and Akthar Basha then took the score to 45/1 before Daniel Miskey removed Havemann.
Josh van Biljon, one of the form players for the recent Cubs Week, then came to the middle and immediately looked calm and went about his business rotating strike at ease. The pressure exerted from all of Kearsney’s bowlers never let the visitors settle, from the cunning leg spin of Rivan Moodley 3/24, to the consistent seam bowling of Daniel Miskey 2/14 and Bonga Maphanga 2/20.
It finally took an incredible ball from Matthew Gorrie to remove Van Biljon and leave DHS reeling at 92/7. Despite a rearguard effort from Dhilan Naraidu of 19 runs, DHS were eventually bowled out for 134, to hand Kearsney an impressive 32-run victory.

This group of Kearsney players had not beaten DHS since arriving at Kearsney, and were keen to host their Durban rivals on Saturday.
Kearsney started strongly and got a five-point lead through accurate shooting. DHS settled down and began to step up the physicality on defense which the Kearney players found difficult to deal with. The first quarter ended with DHS leading 17-11.
Kearsney fought and by half-time had managed to cut into the lead by five points to 25-30.
Once the third quarter began, the hosts allowed DHS to pull away and they were leading 43-31, leaving a mountain to climb in the fourth quarter.
Kearsney played hard but as soon as they got close, they made careless turnovers and allowed DHS to further pull away. DHS ran out comfortable winners, ending on 62-46.

Water Polo
Kearsney 1st team water polo displayed an outstanding performance in their clash against DHS, securing a commanding 16–7 victory. The game showcased teamwork, tactical discipline and individual brilliance, allowing Kearsney to dominate from the outset.
The match started with an intense exchange of goals in the first chukka, but Kearsney quickly gained control, to end the chukka 7–3.
Strategic play and clinical finishing in the second (11-6) and third (14-6) chukkas widened the margin; with the final chukka (16-7) seeing Kearsney maintain dominance, adding two more goals to seal the victory.
Kearsney’s Levi Thom had a great performance, contributing multiple goals, including a crucial penalty conversion; whilst Luca Sandri excelled in both scoring and creating opportunities and Thomas Aylward made an impact with accurate penalty shooting and solid overall play.
