Girls’ First Team Hockey Rankings – A Season to Remember in 2025
The curtain has fallen on the 2025 Girls’ First Team School Hockey season—and what a season it was! From the first whistle in March to the final cheer at the Fairtree Super 12, this year delivered hockey of the highest calibre, leaving us inspired and in awe.
The standard of play in 2025 was nothing short of exceptional. Crisp passing, tactical brilliance, and relentless determination combined to set a new benchmark for school hockey in South Africa. Many have whispered—and some boldly declared—that the SA School Sports Hockey Rankings tournaments rivalled, if not surpassed, even the prestigious IPTs in both quality and intensity.
At the centre of the drama was a season-long tug-of-war between two powerhouse schools: Paarl Gim and Rhenish. Week after week, they traded blows at the top of the rankings, keeping fans glued to every update. DSG Makhanda also made a spirited charge, briefly threatening to upend the established order and adding extra spice to an already thrilling contest.
In the end, Rhenish’s early-season dominance proved decisive. Though they narrowly missed out on the most coveted title, their record spoke volumes.
But 2025 will also be remembered for Paarl Gim’s breakthrough. Refusing to be overshadowed, they fought with unshakable belief—and their moment finally came. In only their second-ever Fairtree Super 12 final, Paarl Gim stormed to a historic first title, dispatching Bloemhof 4–1 in emphatic fashion. That triumph wasn’t just a trophy; it was a statement. In doing so, they became only the fifth school to lift the Super 12 crown. And to cap it off, Alanda Rademeyer etched her name into history, netting a record 11 goals to finish as the tournament’s leading scorer.
As we close the book on 2025, we extend heartfelt congratulations to every player who gave their all, to the coaches who inspired excellence, to the parents who supported tirelessly, and to the fans who filled the stands with colour and song. And, of course, to the tens of thousands who followed the weekly rankings on SA School Sports—you are the heartbeat of this community.
Now, as the sticks are packed away and the astro fields fall silent, we carry forward the memories of an unforgettable season. Rest well, recover, and dream big—because 2026 is waiting, and with it comes the promise of another year of passion, brilliance, and the unshakable spirit that makes South African school hockey so special.
