It was a weekend filled with high-intensity hockey, and with most of the leading teams in action, we’ve seen some significant movement on this week’s SA School Sports Girls First Team School Hockey Rankings.
The biggest shake-up? Rhenish have surged into the No.1 spot, delivering a flawless set of results that included an impressive 3-0 victory over Oranje Meisies. That loss, combined with a frustrating draw against St Anne’s, sees Oranje slip down the table slightly, proving once again that no team is safe at the top.
Meanwhile, Collegiate have made their presence felt, entering the rankings for the first time this season and immediately securing a place in the top 5 zone. Their strong performances suggest they could be a serious contender as the season unfolds and it will be interesting to see how they fare against stronger opponents.
Looking ahead, there are still plenty of fixtures to come, and traditionally, the St Mary’s Waverley Festival serves as a major proving ground. With many of the country’s top teams set to clash, expect some early-season wrinkles to be ironed out as the school hockey rankings continue to take shape.
Of course, there’s a lot on the line. Qualification for the two major tournaments—The Oranje Meisies Super 12 (for the top 12 teams) and the La Rochelle Rising Champions Cup (for positions 13-25)—is still up for grabs, adding even more incentive for teams to perform at their best.
