Khaya Majola Week 2023

KZN Coastal’s Blake Simpson, Ivan Lockem from KZN Inland and Tre Gilbert from Border were all in fine form on day two of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week scoring centuries in their matches.

Blake Simpson from Westville helped Coastals secure a brilliant win over the much-hailed Western Province outfit with his 103 runs. Setting WP, a modest target of 207 runs, the KZN Coastal bowlers dug deep as they chipped away by claiming wickets before any major partnerships could be set up. Simpson was again handy with the ball taking 2/17 with his leg-spin and playing a big hand in their 22 runs win.

The hapless Free State side who struggled on day one, didn’t get much better in day two when they faced Central Gauteng who decimated the batting line-up bundling Free State all out for a mere 70 runs. Esosa Aihevba claimed 6/26 in a breath-taking bowling display and from then on it was a canter home for the Gauteng side who thanks to unbeaten knocks by Tshepo Stafa (47*) and Thebe Gazibe (23*) claimed the 10 wicket win.

Hilton College’s Ivan Lockem enjoyed a productive outing for KZN Inland against Boland scoring a powerful 100 runs in a high scoring innings. Lockem was well supported by Murray Baker (78) and helped to post a target that would prove out of reach for Boland. Ross Boast was again amongst the wickets claiming 2/18 with some penetrative fast bowling that helped reduced Boland to 137 runs and set up a 125 runs win for the KZN outfit.

Titans bounced back from their loss to KZN Coastals on one day one with an impressive 7 wicket win over Eastern Province. Jorich van Schalkwyk was again amongst the runs for Titans scoring his second half century of the week and along with Steven Stolk (69) helped to reach the target of 226 with only three wickets down.

Kei are certainly out of their depth in this Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week, after been bowled out for 25 runs on day one,  they fare marginally better but still lost by 252 runs to Border. Tre Gilbert (107) and Wayden Plaatjies (76*) went after the Kei attack helping to amass 324/5 which provide far too much of a challenge for Kei who were bowled out for 72 runs thanks to Amahle Masiko who snatch 5/18.
