Thursday, 26 February 2026 will go down as a milestone in the sporting history of Cannons Creek, as the school proudly hosted its very first official basketball fixture. The inaugural U19 side stepped onto the court to face St George’s Grammar School in what was more than just a match — it was the beginning of a new era.
Adding a special touch to the occasion was the presence of the opposition coach, Ben Bense, a proud Cannons Creek past pupil (Class of 2022). His involvement brought the story full circle and highlighted the strong sense of community that defines the school.
On the court, the energy was electric. The U19 boys rose to the occasion with a spirited and impressive performance, showcasing determination, teamwork and growing technical skill. Their passion and pride were evident from the opening tip-off to the final whistle, making the encounter a memorable one for players and supporters alike.
This historic fixture is the result of consistent effort throughout the term, with boys from Grade 7 to Grade 12 training diligently to establish the sport from the ground up. The introduction of basketball to the High School programme marks an exciting new chapter, and the enthusiasm shown by the players suggests a bright future ahead.
Cannons Creek can take immense pride in how far the programme has come in such a short time — and this first match is only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey on the court.
