St Charles College Sports news:

This weekend, we hosted football against our friends from Maritzburg College, the 1st team game is reported as follows by Gary Ritchie:

Harwin remains a Fortress for the Blue & Gold

St Charles College hosted neighbours Maritzburg College in the local City Derby. Both teams were anxious to showcase their skills in what was going to be an interesting contest. It was the visitors who had the bulk of the possession with the opening 15 minutes but lacked penetration in their midfield and were looking to play from deep. Then it was the hosts who started winning the battle in midfield through youngster Connor Green and captain Shaun Sithole which led to some half chances in the closing stages of the first half.

Goalless at the break, and all to play for, the second half saw the St Charles College boys raising the tempo and were finding space out wide. The hosts won a free-kick just inside their opponent’s half and it was dead-ball specialist Covhan Baatjies who whipped in a cross at the near post where Gubhuza Mlambo dove at full stretch, headed in near post to give the Maritzburg College ‘keeper no chance. St Charles College could have doubled their lead with Mlambo beating the off-side trap, but the ‘keeper made a fantastic save.

All credit must go to coach Mzamo Cele and the players for executing a clinical performance in this Derby game. Final score 1-0 to the boys in Blue and Gold.
