Kearsney College sports news gets off to a great start with Kearsney’s 1st team having a successful tour to the St John’s Ram T20 Tournament in Harare.
Playing seven matches, they won six, only losing to hosts St John’s College in their final game of the tour. Jack O’Donovan was named Batsman of the Tournament at the final presentation.

BASKETBALL
Kearsney 1st team beat Clifton 1st team 58-41
Kearsney hosted Clifton College for the opening fixture of the summer sports season.
The hosts’ 1st basketball team started poorly in the first quarter and nerves were evident, with the majority of players being new to the team. Clifton’s big men pounded the smaller Kearsney players, taking the ball to the hoop and exploiting their size advantage.
No team completely dominated the other, with both teams appearing rusty and making errors that kept the score close. Clifton had the upper hand, however, being seven points ahead at 10-17 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Kearsney find some offensive rhythm and their outside shooting improved which helped them take the game to 32- 32 by half-time.
The hosts continued building on this good shooting form, taking a 20-point lead, which made it comfortable for the coach to rotate his players. On occasions this helped Clifton eat into the lead, but also gave some of the new players valuable playing time.
In the end, Kearsney 1st team ran out 58-41 winners. The College fielded 14 basketball teams against Clifton at the weekend, winning all 14 fixtures.
