1st team report (Robbie Coutts, 1st XI coach)
The College First XI brought home a comfortable victory this past weekend, putting together arguably their best all round performance of the season. Northwood won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat on a used wicket that would get lower and slower as the day progressed. At the start to the bowling innings, the College bowling attack lacked discipline and bowled far too many extras which allowed the Northwood opening batsmen to settle. Asanda Khumalo broke the partnership, Liam Armstrong taking a well-judged catch on the square leg boundary with the score on 14. Left arm seamer Sphamandla Dzanibe ensured the Northwood batsmen were always under pressure, picking up two quick wickets. Northwood were never able to put together any partnerships of value, with the biggest partnership of the day being 22 between the last pair, setting the visitors 105 for victory. The College spinners of Oliver Da Costa, Chad Mason and James Wiggill bowled a combined 29 overs for only 45 runs, picking up 6 wickets.
College got off to a steady start, getting to 44 before Armstrong was out caught. Two smaller partnerships of 21, the first between Creedon Smith and Captain Bryn Brokensha and the second between Smith and Caleb Thomas ensured College comfortably won the game by 6 wickets in the 36th over. Smith unfortunately getting out with the scores tied for a well-played 51.
Scores in brief: Northwood 104 all out; Wiggill 3/15, Dzanibe 2/14, Da Costa 2/13 College 105 for 4; Smith 51 College won by 6 wickets
