The first day of the 2nd round of games at the Fasken Time cricket festival at St David’s was another runfest Seven of the 12 innings played on the day produced scores in excess of 200 as the batting-friendly conditions continued.
Seven batsmen notched up centuries, with another 14 going beyond 50, and a couple of those getting very close to three figures.
One bowler – Stuart Phipson of St John’s took a fifer (6/97 against St John’s).
There were once again a couple of big 100s. The biggest of them was 165 not out by Richard Seletswane of St Stithians against Maritzburg College. Divan Erasmus of Noordheuwel was 153 not out against the Lions XI when their 65 overs ran out.
The other 100s were scored by Jayden Roux (100 not out for Clifton against St David’s); Tshepo Stafa (103 not out for Jeppe against Paul Roos); Chris du Toit and Luke Kruger (106 and 111, respectively, for Waterkloof against St John’s); and Tian Goosen (115 not out for St Stithians against Martizburg College).
Those who came close to centuries were Kian Hilton of KES who was out on 99 against St Andrew’s; Joe Meyer who is still there on 89 not out against KES; and Jonathan van Zyl who will bat on tomorrow on 92 for Maritzburg College against St Stithians.
