St andrew's college cricket

pam goldingSt Andrew’s College Sports news:  Cricket

In what was a bumper cricket weekend for the St Andrew’s College Cricket Club, in all, 18 matches were played in a number of different formats.
On Friday the 1st XI had a good victory over Graeme College with the Junior Colts B losing narrowly against the St Andrew’s Prep U13A side.
On Saturday, the College 1st XI, 2nd XI, Colts A and B and Junior Colts A and B all beat Graeme College. Oliver Johns and Benjamin Coventry batted extremely maturely for the 1st XI to see them home by 7 wickets.
On Sunday, the 2nd XI, 4th XI and Colts B XI all had brilliant wins against Grey High School. The 1st XI and Colts A matches ended in draws.
The College 1st XI can be very satisfied with how they fought back to put themselves in a position to win the game, after being 5/3 very early on. Benjamin Coventry again batted superbly for the 1st XI, falling just short of his century.
Corne van der Merwe played a similar knock for the Colts A who pushed hard for victory but ultimately ran out of time.
Andrew Turvey is to be congratulated on his century for the 2nd XI, and Connor Holder for his century for the Colts A. Aidan Marriott and Sipumelele Ndoni took five wicket hauls for the Colts A and B respectively. Julien Orpen scored a fantastic century for the Junior Colts A side after coming in at a difficult time in the match.
Many thanks to both Graeme College and Grey High School for all the fixtures over the weekend. Matches were competitive and enjoyable, being played in great spirit.
Basketball:
St Andrew’s College basketball 1st team traveled to Johannesburg to participate in the American International School of Johannesburg’s Invitational Basketball Tournament. The tournament ran from January 30th to February 1st, 2025.
Results:
vs St David’s 19-25 (Loss)
vs Elite Sporting & Cultural Academy 16-52 (Loss)
vs Westville 19-45 (Loss)
vs King Limbro 30-29 (Win)
vs AISJ 34-24 (Loss)
There is much to refine and practice. However, the tour was an invaluable learning experience for both the boys and the coaches. The skills and insights gained will be valuable as the team prepares to return to Johannesburg for the annual St John’s U19 basketball tournament from 20 – 23 February.
