The St Andrew’s College 1st XI lost the toss and were asked to bat first in the favourable bowling conditions by Queen’s College on Lower field on Saturday 11 February. St Andrew’s were off to a flying start, then stumbled, before Sibusiso Mxube resurrected the innings with a stabilizing and mature knock of 65 off 99 balls. St Andrew’s declared on 250/8 after 60 overs. Left arm swing bowler, Joe Wostenholm was superb for St Andrew’s with the bat, his innings of 50 off 80 balls showed grit, and was celebrated with much delight from his teammates.

Queen’s Captain, Ryan Denston, bowled beautifully for Queen’s. His spell of 4/86 in 22 overs was enriching and enjoyed by all. It was wonderful to see a schoolboy leg spinner being given the space to thrive.

After lunch, Matthew Beamish was meticulous in his new ball spell. He attacked the stumps, with away swing, and made the most of the pitch that was under cover for most of the week. Queen’s never recovered from his spell of 5 wickets for just 4 runs, and St Andrew’s finished convincing winners.
