Soccer:

Balgowan’s footballers braved the N3 to Durban for a second week, this time taking on Clifton College; but not before the U15C and 2nd XIs dispatched Grace College’s U15A and first XIs by three goals to two in both of the mid-week fixtures. Michaelhouse’s Jordan Baxter cracked home a hattrick in the open age group encounter.

Sixteen Michaelhouse teams disembarked in Durban to enjoy another fantastic day on the scoreboard, winning 13 and drawing one of the day’s matches, racking up 64 goals and conceding just nine in the process. House’s U15A lads came unstuck, going down 0-4 while the firsts (3-1), seconds (2-1), U16A (1-0) and U14A (5-0) took maximum advantage of the extra oxygen at sea level. The visiting U14 and U16 age groups returned to Balgowan with unblemished records across the board. The pick of the day was undoubtedly the 10-0 rout enjoyed by the U15D boys.

Soccer remains an incredibly popular third term sport option at Michaelhouse – the downside being the limited opportunity for the 30 odd football teams, all kitted out in red and white and primed for action on match days. This surfeit of teams though has created a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Midlands community which saw four Michaelhouse sides enjoying fixtures against teams from Zenzani Village, just five kilometers down the R103 from the school.
