The shift in tempo from the hype and drama of hockey and rugby in the second quarter was palpable in Balgowan on Saturday as Michaelhouse enjoyed its first full football fixture since 2019.
Rugby:
While Botha’s Hill played host to the U14 and U15 sides, Kearsney College’s U16s and opens meandered to the Midlands where they dominated the U16 category, winning all five encounters; but came unstuck in the opens where Michaelhouse took the laurels in six of the eight starts, including a memorable 9-0 trouncing of the visitors in the 8th XI clash!
Hockey:
The curtain raiser to the main event on Meadows resulted in a thrilling 3-3 draw for the seconds. A second half equalizer by the home side squared away a 1-1 stalemate in the first team game.
Down the R103, Kearsney weren’t able to cash in on any home ground advantage winning two, drawing two and losing three of the U15 matches, including a 1-6 downing for the Ds, although pride was restored by a tight 1-0 win for the A side. The boys from Balgowan were also able to claim the ascendency in the U14 category, winning two, drawing three and returning home with just a single 1-2 loss (U14E).
Soccer:
The final analysis was a positive one for Michaelhouse soccer: Played 25, won 11, drew six and lost eight (goals for: 62, goals against: 44).
Canoeing:
Michaelhouse’s paddlers braved the chilly conditions in the Interschools Race contested on the Upper Umgeni on Saturday where 17 Michaelhouse paddlers chipped in for the overall win. Individual top ten results in the age groups included

- Jack Shooter 1st
